Since I could remember I wanted to dance. My grandparents put me in ballet classes when I was living with them at a very young age. I loved it..it was a peice of beauty in a otherwise chaotic life. But after some time I started being moved back and forth between my mother and grandparents..different states, different lifestyles. Not only that I grew fast and was usually the tallest girl in class, which was akward. So in my teens I took up Tap. Tap can be either elegant or rather hard core. Also what is great about Tap dancing is anyone at any age, in any place in thier lives can do it. It is hard to be depressed when doing Tap. There are really no hard and fast rigorus rules, like in Ballet, which is a sometimes difficult discipline..it is an evolving dance. In the 1990s I started hanging out with a woman Sally Mack in Portalnd...she is wonderful..in her 70's she would take off across the floor in a mix of ballet and jazz in her tap shoes and she just had a look of love and bliss on her face. I used to think 'i hope i am like her at her age'. Ballet is so beautiful..can be incorporated in to all dance, but it has a relatively short life span-and is hell on feet-toes. But Tap can be done wonderfully until the day one dies, started at any age, and thats why I love it.
